Civil rights activist Rev. Share Harris plans to hold his second free gasoline distribution event on Wednesday in Chula Vista.
The event is open to households with income of $75,000 or less and will provide up to $50 of gas per car along with free food from the San Diego Food Bank.
Online registration is already underway, and the event takes place from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Sponsors include Gomez Trial Attorneys, New Seasons Church, Nu Way Ministries, St. Stephens Church of God in Christ and Bethel Baptist Church.
Harris said he organized the “Gas Me Up” events “to ensure that low-income and working- class families have a little support at the pump” amid rapidly rising gas prices.
He said sponsors expect to be able to provide gas for 300 vehicles on Wednesday.
Drivers who have registered should go to the parking lot behind the Black Angus Steakhouse at 707 E Street and will then be directed to a nearby Arco station.
Harris’ People’s Association of Justice Advocates is a national civil and human rights organization with offices in Washington and San Diego.
