Girl Scouts San Diego said Wednesday that inflation will force a one-dollar rise in price for their beloved cookies to $6 per box next year.

It will be the first time in eight years that the Girl Scouts have adjusted the price of cookie packages.

“Like so many organizations and businesses in San Diego and around the country, Girl Scouts San Diego has experienced challenges,” said Carol Dedrich, CEO of the local council, citing both inflation and recovery from the pandemic.

She said the higher price will “strengthen funding for our many programs that promote the positive development of local girls, and enhance the cookie program experience for girls, families, volunteers, and customers.”

The annual Girl Scout Cookie Season will begin in San Diego and Imperial counties on Jan. 29, 2023, with scouts and their parents calling on friends, neighbors and colleagues to order cookies.

All proceeds from the sales stay in the two counties and support programs like summer camps and STEM — science, technology, engineering and math — training for girls

“We appreciate our communities’ continued support through the purchase of these special treats that not only taste good, but also do good,” said Dedrich.

One of 111 councils across the country, Girl Scouts San Diego provides year-round activities and volunteer training for nearly 23,000 girls and adults in San Diego and Imperial counties.
