The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency reported 582 new COVID-19 infections Thursday and one death.
That’s the highest new case total in the past seven days – the daily numbers have ranged from 304 to 487 over that period.
The new data increased the county’s coronavirus totals to 759,299 cases and 5,238 deaths.
In addition, a total of 591 cases of the BA.2 variant have been reported in the county, with one hospitalization.
Meanwhile, the county’s COVID-19 hospitalizations dropped by one to 103, according to the latest state data. Eleven of those patients required placement in intensive care.
In vaccine developments, Moderna said on Thursday that it asked U.S. regulators to authorize its COVID-19 vaccine for children under the age of 6. That which would make it the first shot against the coronavirus available for those age 5 or under.
