Honor Flight San Diego, with its final cohort of World War II and Korean War veterans, toured major memorials Saturday in Washington, sparking a wide range of emotions.

The nearly 90 veterans, including one woman who served in the WAVES, were wheeled or otherwise guided by family members and other guardians who took an American Airlines charter to Baltimore.

The oldest was 101.

Honor Flights from other U.S. cities also took in the capital sights on a sunny day that started in the 50s.

The San Diego hub’s contingent returns Sunday, with the public invited to welcome the group at San Diego International Airport. Greeters need to park off-site at 851 Harbor Island Drive, which is free, and take a shuttle to the terminal.

Shuttle service starts at 11:30 a.m. It is recommended people arrive no later than 12:30 p.m. Look for signs and balloons on Harbor Drive.
