An apparent road-rage shooting on Interstate 8 in Mission Valley left a motorist wounded Friday afternoon.
The victim was headed west about 3 p.m. when someone inside a dark-colored Volkswagen Beetle with several people in it fired multiple rounds at his gray Jeep Wrangler, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The wounded man exited the freeway at Mission Center Road, drove to nearby Westfield Mission Valley shopping center, parked and went into a Target store at the mall to seek assistance, CHP public-affairs Officer Sal Castro said.
Paramedics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds, the spokesman said.
Following the shooting, the Volkswagen continued on to the west on the interstate toward an unknown destination.
It was unclear what prompted the shooting, Castro said.
