Who said nothing in life is free?

Twenty-five pallets of pet supplies that arrived at the Rancho Coastal Humane Society at 389 Requeza St. in Encinitas on Wednesday will be distributed to non-profit pet rescue groups starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 26.

The supplies from Chewy.com are donated through Rescue Bank operated by Greater Good Charities, a non-profit organization that supports animal rescue and rehabilitation groups by providing services and supplies.

RCHS President Judi Sanzo says, “We have mostly dog food, a limited amount of cat food, cat litter, and other supplies.”

Sanzo added there is no cost to the rescues: “The food and other supplies will be distributed at no cost to 501 (c) (3) non-profit pet rescue groups starting at 9 a.m. Saturday. It will all be gone in about an hour.”

“We’ve been conducting these distributions for many years, but it was usually once or twice per year,” RCHS spokesman John Van Zante said. “When the COVID 19 pandemic began two years ago and many rescues were struggling to feed the pets under their care, Rescue Bank, Greater Good Charities, and Chewy began sending us about one shipment per month.”

Sanzo said that Greater Good Charities and Rescue Bank rely on Rancho Coastal Humane Society to distribute the food for pets waiting to be adopted.

“The rescues tell us that the money they save with the free food is being spent to provide medical care for the pets under their care and take in more pets. Each giveaway saves lives.”

For more information rescues should call 760-753-6413 or contact [email protected]g.

Rescue representatives must remain in their vehicles and rescues are reminded to stay to the right side of the driveway so they do not to block the entrance to RCHS, the Community Pet Food Bank, and Kamp Kanine Day Care for Dogs.

They must provide their 501 (c) (3) nonprofit identification numbers. The food will be loaded into their vehicles by RCHS staff and volunteers.
