Gusty westerly winds were forecast to prevail over San Diego County mountains and deserts Sunday through Tuesday, the National Weather Service said.

A wind advisory was posted for some county deserts with gusts of 50 mph or more expected through Sunday evening.

Cooler days and a coastal eddy with periods of gusty south winds and clouds along the coast were expected to follow.

High temperatures along the coast Sunday are predicted to reach 69 degrees, 71 to 76 in the western valleys, 66 to 75 in the mountains and 92 to 97 in the deserts, according to the weather agency.

The marine layer could deepen a bit more through Monday and could leak some spotty drizzle at times, but most areas in the coastal basin should stay dry and see some sun each day, forecasters said.

Wednesday through Friday, a weak ridge was expected to drift east with decreasing winds, bringing warmer days. By the weekend the ridge was predicted to give way to broader troughing over the West Coast, setting the stage for cooler weather into early next week.

West to northwest winds were expected with gusts around 20 knots in the outer coastal waters Sunday. Otherwise, no hazardous marine weather was expected through Thursday.
