The Marine Corps reported Wednesday that a MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor from Miramar crashed during training in Imperial County.
Media reports said as many as four personnel were killed, but there was no official confirmation.
The aircraft from the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing went down around 12:30 p.m. near the town of Glamis in the Sonoran Desert east of Brawley.
Early reports said the aircraft carried nuclear material, but the Marine Corps said that was incorrect.

Contrary to social media rumors, there was no nuclear material on board the aircraft. More information will be made available as we receive it.

The Marine Corps said that both military and civilian first responders were at the scene of the crash.
An Osprey crashed in March during NATO exercises in Norway.
