A pedestrian was killed Friday evening after she was struck by an SUV in San Marcos, the San Diego Sheriff’s Department reported.

Deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station were called at approximately 8:20 p.m. to a collision on Mission Road near Barham Drive, deputies said.

The woman was struck by the SUV as she illegally crossed Mission, authorities said. She suffered major head and body trauma and was transported to Palomar Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.

A preliminary investigation determined that alcohol and speed were not factors in the incident.

The sheriff’s traffic division asked anyone with information about the collision to call them at 760-510-5200.
