San Diego-based RICK Engineering Company, a multidisciplinary planning, design and engineering firm, has acquired Arizona-based Cypress Civil Development, a 12-year-old civil engineering and survey firm.

The acquisition of Cypress Civil, which has a staff of 26 engineering professionals, surveyors and administrative personnel, expands RICK’s capabilities, expertise and relationships within the Arizona market.  The entire staff of Cypress Civil is transitioning to RICK’s offices in Phoenix and Tucson.

“This acquisition supports our strategic growth goals, staffing needs, and management succession planning for our offices in Arizona,” said Kai E. Ramer, president and chief operating officer of the 67-year-old firm.

RICK has a workforce of more than 350 professionals and 10 offices in California, Arizona, Colorado and Nevada.

Microsoft founder and philanthropist Bill Gates will speak at the Illumina Genomics Forum in September, the San Diego-based genomics company announced. Gates will deliver a keynote address on the potential for genomics to change the trajectory of global health.

“Genomics should be available to the many, not the few, and even though the genomic health era has already led to breakthrough discoveries that are advancing medical care, the benefits have not yet had a true global impact,” said Kathryne Reeves, chief marketing officer for Illumina. “Through sessions led by Bill Gates and expert panelists, Illumina Genomics Forum will help attendees see and understand the path toward global health equity.”

The forum is scheduled to take place at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in downtown San Diego Sept. 28 through Oct. 1.

San Diego’s Century 21 Award real estate firm is merging with Century 21 Affiliated, the largest Century 21 franchisee in the country. The merger will add the local franchisee’s 15 Southern California offices to more than 60 across Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota nd Wisconsin.

said Century 21 Affiliated CEO Dan Kruse. “It gives us the opportunity to strengthen our

Dunkin has opened their latest Southern California store at 1906 Oceanside Boulevard in Oceanside. It’s the donut purveyor’s fifth location in the Camp Pendleton, Oceanside and Vista area.

Homes in San Diego sell at the seventh fastest rate in the United States, with it taking just over 17 days to get an acceptable offer, according to a new study. Seattle ranks first at 12 days. The study by online bank Tangerine analyzed data from Zillow.

“With the majority of the list being taken by states like California, Washington, and Utah, it’s clear that there is lots of demand for housing in the west of the nation, more specifically the west coast,” according to Tangerine.

Cox Charities has announced 10 San Diego nonprofits that are receiving a $10,000 grant each. The 10 are Alpha Project for the Homeless, Classics 4 Kids, Elementary Institute of Science, Feeding San Diego, Girls Inc. of San Diego County, Just in Time for Foster Youth, La Maestra Foundation, San Diego Coastkeeper, Urban Corps of San Diego County, and Young and Prosperous Foundation.
