San Diego County’s Health and Human Services Agency reported 897 new COVID-19 cases Monday, while the virus-related death toll rose by eight since last week.

Another 1,223 virus cases were confirmed Sunday, along with 1,909 Saturday and 1,738 Friday. The new cases lifted the county’s cumulative total to 887,636 since the pandemic began.

The region’s total death count now stands at 5,417.

The number of people hospitalized with a coronavirus infection in San Diego County, meanwhile, has reached 438, according to the latest state data.

More than 3 million or 89.9% of San Diegans age 6 months and older are at least partially vaccinated. More than 2.65 million or 79.3% are fully vaccinated. A total of 1,416,251 or 58% of 2,430,747 eligible San Diegans have received a booster.
