High pressure was likely to strengthen Saturday over the West, with slightly warmer temperatures expected over inland San Diego County, the National Weather Service said.

Monsoonal moisture was predicted to increase next week, leading to small chances of showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the mountains Wednesday and beyond, the NWS said.

High temperatures along the coast Saturday were predicted to be 72 to 77 degrees with overnight lows of 58 to 63. Highs in the western valleys were expected to be 80 to 85, 89 to 94 near the foothills with overnight lows of 58 to 63. Highs in the mountains were expected to be 87 to 96 with overnight lows of 59 to 68, and highs in the deserts were predicted to be 109 to 114 with overnight lows of 78 to 85.

High pressure over Colorado was expected to migrate westward over Utah and strengthen this coming week, forecasters said. That will maintain hot inland weather and a shallow marine layer. Temperatures were predicted to be near normal near the coast under the influence of the marine layer, but a few degrees above normal for inland valleys, mountains and deserts.

The ridge axis of the western high could migrate slightly northward Tuesday and Wednesday, opening the door for monsoon moisture in Mexico to arrive in Southern California.
