Caltrans crews will close the Northbound Interstate 5 (I-5) connector to Eastbound Interstate 8 (I-8) on Thursday, July 7, from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.
The closure will also impact motorists traveling on eastbound I-8 at the I-8 and I-5 interchange. In addition, the Camino Del Rio West and Moreno Boulevard on-ramps to eastbound I-8 will be closed.
Crews have begun a two-mile stretch of asphalt concrete overlay to extend the lifespan of the roadway on this stretch of the freeway.
Here are the detours for the closure:
- Northbound I-5 Connector to Eastbound I-8 Detour – Motorists should continue north on I-5 to the Sea World Drive exit. Turn left onto Sea World Drive, turn left onto Friars Road, and proceed east for approximately five miles. Turn right onto Qualcomm Way to the eastbound I-8 on-ramp
- Eastbound I-8 at I-8/I-5 Interchange Detour – Motorists on eastbound I-8 will be detoured from southbound I-5 to northbound SR-163 to the eastbound I-8 connector.
Travelers are reminded to watch for highway workers and moving equipment and to Be Work Zone Alert. The construction schedule is subject to change due to weather, traffic incidents, or other construction considerations.
